Greetings to all Michigan high school hockey coaches …
As some of you are aware, high school hockey will be one of fifteen featured sports in a first-ever Michigan sports festival this June 24-27thcalled meijer State Games of Michigan. To look at more details, please read the attachments and refer to the website listed below.
Since last June, hundreds of volunteer hours have been invested by members of our state-wide hockey steering committee and twenty five of your colleagues have been selected and have agreed to volunteer coach one of eight geographically-based teams.
But now we need your enthusiastic support and assistance to help us promote high school hockey all over Michigan by encouraging your underclassmen to attend tryouts and ultimately participate in this outstanding, high-profile showcase. Please note that only underclassmen are eligible to participate.
First, we request that you download and color print enough copies of attachment “Player Invite” - for every 9-11thgrade hockey player presently on your varsity team.
Secondly, please sit down with these players some time this week, hand out our invitation notice, and read it to them. (This is important.)Encourage them to take it home, discuss it with their parents, then sign up online to attend tryouts.Make sure they understand there will beNO ON-SITE (walk-in) REGISTRATION for any tryout.ALL players must register online no later than 24 hours prior to the first tryout date for the team representing your area. The total cost to attend tryouts is only $30.The overall player cost to participate in the State Games will be very minimal.
Finally, please download (using Adobe Reader) and color print 3-4 copies of attachment “StateGames Hockey”and ask the manager of your home arena if he would be willing to place the notices in high visibility areas around the facility. This will help get the word out to all high school hockey players and will also serve to alert amateur coaches and parents about this special event – further promoting high school hockey. If you have your own team locker room, you may want to post one there as well.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to go the meijerState Games of Michigan website at www.StateGamesOfMichigan.comor email the General Manager or a coach representing the team in your area.
Thank you in advance for helping us support and promote high school hockey in Michigan. If you get the opportunity, please come to Grand Rapids this June for a hockey showcase that will feature the best underclassmen in our state.Exciting times ahead this June for high school hockey players!
